Racewear

Safety is important and whilst I have a motorcycle helmet from my biker days, the current regulations require one that’s been tested to HANS/FHR standards. It nearly took my breath away the prices of some of these things! A bit of shopping around found these two at the lower end of the scale. They’re still not cheap but what price can you put on safety.

Got one of these for £274 including shipping from V2 Sport.

Taken from their website verbatim “V2 Super-Vent was developed to meet SNELL’s new SA2015 standard that requires all helmets built to SA2015 to have passed the (FHR) Front Head Restraint Test. This feature is standard on all V2 Sport SA2015 Helmets. The Super-Vent offers a range of features and models which make it suitable for almost all motor sports from Circuit Racing to Track Days.

  • Helmet is constructed from glass fibre
  • Chin strap is Kevlar fabric with double D-ring fastening
  • SNELL SA2015 approved, fitted with fire resistant lining
  • Sizes from 54cm (XS) to 64cm (XXL)
  • Compatible with most common makes of intercom system.”

And a HANS/FHR from Merlin Motorsport for £247 delivered.

Schroth EVO FHR or HANS Device with 20 degree recline, ideally suited to saloon type cars and some GT cars, such as Radicals and likewise some single seater cars. The EVO version of the FHR is the lightest device available in this price range, weighing 730grms.

The Schroth EVO Frontal Head Restraint (FHR) is an entry level HANS Device manufactured from reinforced thermoplastics to keep weight down whilst maintaining an affordable price. This 20 Degree HANS Device weighs just 730grms including padding and tethers.

Race gloves that meet the requirements aren’t cheap either and Merlin Motorsport has these at £179 inc vat for both.
