The car is a 2002 BMW 330Ci sport with just over 103,000 miles.
- 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds (measured on AIM Solo 2)
- The car weighs 1290Kg (without fuel and passenger seat)
- RPM limiter raised to 7000rpm (from 6500rpm)
- MSVT Track Day Trophy CLASS C. Tuned ECU giving 247bhp at crank (189bhp at hubs) & 306Nm torque. (Class limit is 150bhp/ton hubs measured/weight is with driver) Minimum weight is 1260Kg so we’re over 100Kg too heavy already so no weight worries here.
- 750mc Roadsports CLASS C. De-tuned ECU giving 236.7bhp at crank (Class limit is 180 bhp/ton, crank bhp/ weight without driver) Minimum weight is 1315Kg. Achieved by keeping the 12Kg passenger seat in place and 10Kg ballast. Remaining fuel makes up the remaining required 3Kg and adds a buffer. (1/4 tank weighs about 10Kg and would be considered a minimum to prevent fuel starvation.)
- 5 Speed Gearbox standard ratios.
- 3.73 final drive (raised from the standard 2.93)
- TTV Lightened flywheel and 5 paddle racing clutch.
- Quaife Automatic Torque Bias differential (ATB) Similar to a limited slip differential but allows 70% transfer of power instead of 50% in a conventional LSD.
- Ferodo DS1.11 endurance brake pads, retaining standard 330Ci solid discs and callipers.
- Front brake cooling ducts direct to disc.
- Wheels are OEM BMW Style 51/103 and are 17″x8J ET47 (15mm spacers take them to ET32)
- Tyres 235/40R17 Nankang AR-1 semi-slick for dry setup,
- Tyres 225/45R17 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 for wet.
- Ramair induction kit.
- Tegiwa M3 front splitter and rear wing.
- GAZ Gold coilover racing shocks with front adjustable top mounts and offset rear top mounts. This is a ‘true coil over’ conversion with the springs on the rear dampers. Custom spring rates are 950 front and 450 rear.
- +0.5 degree camber front lower wishbone bushes.
- Rear camber adjustment by adjustable lower arms.
- H&R uprated and adjustable anti roll bars (3 way front, 2 way rear) with adjustable drop links.
- Powerflex Black series bushes all round including differential mounts.
- Differential mounting strengthening plates.
- Lexan rear, and rear side windows.
- Sparco Circuit II seat.
- Sparco 6 point harness.
- Lifeline Firemarshal plumbed extinguisher system with 8 nozzles (4 cockpit, 4 engine)
- Twin fuel pump modification.
- ATi engine vibration damper.
The previous owner started the build in 2015 using an insurance write off 2002 330Ci Sport with just over 100,000 miles. It was written off due to a keying incident on virtually every panel , and was deemed to be too costly to repair. It was mechanically undamaged, and rust free, and therefore was the perfect donor to turn into a race car.
The ultimate spec will eventually be to have it capable to race in as many series and championships as possible including the 750 motor club Roadsports , Club Enduro and BMWCCR Class 6, along with the MSVT Track Day Championship. All these run different powers and minimum weights so the only things we can do is to modify the engine tune or add ballast. The car weighs 1290Kg (zero fuel).
The original specification of the car when purchased was half way to being BMW 330 Challenge specification (a series that’s no longer running in England and never started in Scotland where this car was located)
As bought (June 2020) it already had fitted:
- Quaife Automatic Torque Bias (ATB) differential (albeit with the original 2.93 final drive). Similar to a limited slip differential (LSD) but works on a different principle. This can transfer up to 70% torque to the wheel with the most grip. (LSDs are limited to just 50%, however with an ATB both driven wheels need to be on the ground, unlike a true LSD)
- Safety devices full roll cage
- Fully plumbed fire extinguisher system with 4 nozzles (out of date)
- Rear lexan windows
- Lightened flywheel and TTV racing paddle clutch
- Full Klarius exhaust
- Powerflex poly bushed throughout including front castor bushes.
- Sparco Circuit II seat (dated 2016, 1 year left)
- Race. Harness (dated 2015, out of date)
- Flocked dash
- Remapped ECU
- Tegiwa front splitter and rear wing
- Braided brake lines
- Lightweight racing battery with shut off
- Lowered springs on original shocks
- Rear subframe reinforcement kit
- Ramair induction kit
- Rear subframe powder coated
- Uprated aluminium radiator and thermostat housing
- Rear boot springs
- Door cards in carbon fibre
- Dual fuel pump modification
- Front strut reinforcement (supplied but not fitted)
- Eibach rear camber adjustment rods (supplied but not fitted)
- Front aero catches (supplied but not fitted)
Upgrades so far by me:
